I want to draw a shark-monster! I start by sketching a big face with lots of character. Start off with a pencil and sketch lightly.
I construct the rest of the body using basic shapes.
Once I'm happy with the face I sketch a body in very loosely. I want him to look as though he would be a powerful swimmer.
I change his pose to make him look more as though he's floating underwater.
Once I'm happy with my sketch, I start the inking stage/ I draw over my light sketch with a pen, to get sharper, more controlled lines.
I ink the outline first and then draw the details in with a thinner pen.
I pick the main colours and colour in those areas.
Next I add shading over the top of the lighter colour. I try to imagine which side the light is coming from, and then I make the opposite side darker.
I thought the colour wasn't quite right, so I changed the tones a little bit and made the lines a dark blue, to give it an underwater feel.
